Lesbian Gay and Bisexual history project

Tom Marshman, Arnolfini associate artist, is inviting you to take part in an oral history project for LGBT History month.  He would like to hear from people interested in taking part, read more.

Hello, I am Tom Marshman, I am an Arnolfini associate artist and I have been a practising performance artist for over ten years. I have produced over 20 projects in a wide range of medium including performance, photography, installation, publication and film. I actively encourage a dialogue with my audiences and participants aiming to create a safe space to share their thoughts and experiences. I have a fascination for uncovering extraordinary stories from ordinary lives.

I am contacting yo invite you to get involved in a project that I am leading. The projects outcome is a performance piece that focuses on LGBT history project that is specific to Bristol.

Lesbian Gay and Bisexual history project; background.

There are a number of possible outcomes for the project. I would like to present a performance during LGBT history month in February 2010, using stories gathered from audio interviews.

Also these audio interviews may be edited and uploaded onto websites.

It has taken a long time to secure funding but I am pleased to say I have just been awarded money from the Arts Council of England. I would like the performance to take place within LGBT history month [February 2010]. I am trying to book in interested participants to have a chat with me in the next couple of weeks.

The meeting can take place wherever is convenient to you, in your house or I have a studio in central Bristol. Don’t worry if you feel that you don't have anything extraordinary to tell me. I am interested in capturing all kinds of social histories.

I am currently looking at appropriate spaces in Bristol for the final showing to happen and have lot of possibilities; you will of course be invited to the show.

If you’re still curious to take part please let me know when a convenient time or a phone number is and we can arrange a meeting. I would like to document our meeting but of you feel uncomfortable with this just let me know and we can find another option.

Warm wishes

Tom Marshman
