Challenging Homophobia, Supporting equality in schools... the story so far
In our Campaigns section we report on the story so far, on our effort to persuade Bbristol City Council's Children and Young People's Services Directorate to deliver on their many promises in respect of LGBT equality in schools.
In almost every walk of life LGBT people are gaining recognition as fully eentitled to fair treatment, freedom from intimidation, vicitimsation and discrimination.
The NHS PCT, the Police, the Fire and rescue Service, Universities and all Workers' Unions, most Employers and even some religious establishments have come in leaps and bounds to implementing UK law on discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.
In education, however, we have found a recalcitrant bastion of discrimanation that condemns LGBT pupils, parents and Teachers to a stark choice: live deep in the closet or face daily humiliation, intimdation and even physical assault.
The Forum has been conducting this campaign since April 2008, through Open Meetings that have been consistently very well attended. At present we await news of the most recent batch of promises, made by the new Lib Dem Administration.
