Gendered Intelligence: Part time Trans Youth Support Worker - email for info

The project aims to:

  1. facilitate a series of activities for young Trans people
  2. address some of the barriers for young trans people in accessing our services
  3. gather a group of young trans people on one Saturday and one Wednesday in each month
  4. carry out visits across England
  5. provide support guidance to young trans people, their parents, family members and key workers like teachers, head teachers, social workers and housing officers working closely with young trans individuals.

Amongst the objectives of the projects are:

  • to support young trans people considering ‘coming out’ to family, friends, teachers and employe
  • to explore trans and gender queer identities
  • to approach GP and medical practitioners;
  • to examine language and terminology;
  • to explore issues of mental health and well being;
  • to openly discuss sex and relationships education;
  • to guide and support young trans people through transitioning
  • to inform young trans people of their legal rights
  • to address transphobic hate crime
  • to help youngt trans people deal with financial issues, job hunting and career prospects, housing and other practical issues

Gendered Intelligence plan to operate a volunteer scheme for members of the trans community, as well as for non-trans people (technical term: cis-sexual) wishing to get involved in the trans community.

Project structure:

A steering group will support and monitor the project and will consist of

  1. the Chair of the G.I. Management Committee
  2. a volunteer
  3. a young service user
  4. the Trans Youth Support Worker
  5. any professionals within the youth services who may wish to input their expertise. 

The Steering Group will discuss day-to-day activities of the project, tackle problems that arise and make all necessary decisions to take the project forward.
